The Lodge on the Bitterroot River offers stunning views, unparalleled improvements, privacy and over one mile of Bitterroot River frontage.
Originally created as a commercial fly fishing lodge - this offering was showcased in the luxury lifestyle magazine Town and Country as one of the best places to fish in Montana. The current owners privatized the Lodge for friends and family in the late 1990's. Over the years they have renovated and expanded the main Lodge, built an additional separate residence and renovated the remaining cabins and bungalows. This is a perfect opportunity for a private family compound, corporate retreat or commercial fly fishing lodge.
Just a few miles from the Town of Hamilton and accessed by improved roads - visitors are greeted by the custom designed entry gates portraying the river with river rock, trout and fly line above. The gently winding drive leads you through the majestic forest of Ponderosa pine trees to the main compound. A commissioned fish sculpture and totem pole are the centerpieces in the lush landscaped entry.
The main Lodge was constructed utilizing hand hewed logs lending a rustic warmth and charm. The centerpiece is an expansive great room with voluminous ceilings, a massive river rock fireplace with gas starter, rough sawn wood floors, billiards table and oversized picture windows framing the Bitterroot River. Double French doors lead out to the river front entertainment patio complete with fire pit, hot tub and seating areas.
Casual Montana living is highlighted with the dining room large enough to seat 12 comfortably. Additionally there is an enclosed heated entertainment patio complete with screened in walls.
The spacious kitchen is well designed with commercial grade appliances including a 6 burner GE Monogram stove complete with a grille, double convection built in ovens with separate warming drawer, two dishwashers, full sink and vegetable sink, side by side refrigerator, built in wine refrigerator and robust walk in pantry. Granite slab countertops and custom rustic cabinets complement the natural materials used throughout the home.
Also included in the Main Lodge is the master suite extraordinaire. A color palate that compliments the hues and textures found throughout Montana creates a relaxing respite after a busy day fishing. Windows are strategically placed for the owner to enjoy the picturesque views and hear the sounds of the flowing river. The master bath suite includes a full size walk in steam shower, separate his and her walk in closets and separate vanities. The main closet includes custom built organizers and a temperature controlled wine refrigerator for your private reserves.
The upstairs loft is perfect for your home office or hobbies and overlooks the great room and the River. An inviting private balcony is inviting for a late afternoon break or nap.
There are two expansive outdoor entertainment patios. The front patio houses a full size BBQ with built in smoker. Over the years there have been wonderful parties where the outdoor cooking area was a popular gathering area for the guests to participate in an authentic Montana grilling experience.
The river side entertainment patio, which is adjacent to the Great Room, is a delight with multiple conversation areas and elevated hot tub platform.
Attached to the Main Lodge are three individual guest rooms offering rustic warmth and charm. Friends and family will have the ultimate comfort with ample living space and attached private bathrooms.
Three additional guest accommodations are included at the Lodge on the Bitterroot River. The first bungalow is a separate one bedroom single level residence with direct access to the river. It has been updated and includes a full kitchen, living room, office, walk in closet and full bath. The second accommodation is located in The Lodge Barn and offers a one bedroom loft apartment with full kitchen, laundry room and open concept living space.
The third residence is located on the point of the property with commanding views of the Bitterroot River and the Three Sisters Bitterroot Mountain Peaks. Aptly named the River Bend House it offers 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths on two levels with a wrap around covered porch overlooking the river. The finishing touches include a cheery country kitchen, dining area, laundry room and living room.
Should your guests still desire a work out after a full day of Montana activities - the Lodge Gym is a separate building with full bath and is convenient to all residential living accommodations.
No offering would be complete without the ultimate garage. It was designed for convenience and ease including an indoor car wash bay, heat, ample storage and room for multiple vehicles.
The property is level and includes a combination of native meadows, Ponderosa pine trees, parklike improvements in the main living areas and privacy.
The blue ribbon Bitterroot River is home to robust cutthroat, browns, brookies and rainbow. The river is wide enough for floating but is also gentle to enjoy wade fishing. The springtime Skwalla hatch is the official opening of the flyfishing season which usually begins early April. It is an easy drive to fish the famous Blackfoot River, the Clark Fork River, Rock Creek, the Missouri River and the West and East Forks of the Bitterroot River.
In addition to fishing all four season recreational opportunities are close including the Bitterroot Selway Wilderness Area offering 1.3 million acres for hiking, hunting and exploration. This is the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states. It is also close to Lost Trail and Snow Bowl local alpine ski resorts, the groomed cross country ski trails at Chief Joseph Pass and Lolo Pass and snowmobiling.
