This stunning property is located within the walls of Barga and enjoys amazing views of both the Alpi Apuane and the Appenines. It was bought and completely restored from floor to ceiling using anti-seismic technology. The oldest part of the structure dates back to the 1500s when the Medici fortified the city of Barga. At this time, Barga was strategically important as it was the centre of the silk industry in Tuscany.
This property is completely accessible by car despite being within the walls of Barga, and has a private parking space next to the villa.
The interior was designed by a Tuscan architect who has maintained original features such as arches within the setting of a fully functional home.
One enters into a large, 5sqm entrance room which is currently used as a formal dining room with a pellet burner as a feature. There is then a double staircase leading a few steps down to the music room and then to the upstairs of the house.
At this level, there is a second reception room off the entrance as well as a huge eat-in kitchen with feature fireplace. The original, massive Tuscan fireplace is in full working order and makes this room the heart of the family home. The kitchen seats 10 and was originally where the nuns would congregate in its convent history. This room and the music room have French doors leading out to the terrazza which runs the length of the villa.
There is also a cloakroom on the ground floor for guests, adjacent to a full bathroom complete with shower, WC, bidet and hand basin.
The stairs leading up to the first floor are not only the original stone stones stairs from when the property was used as a convent, but also have a vaulted ceiling.
The first floor has four bedrooms and three bathrooms as well as a beautiful portico. The master bedroom is very large and has an en suite bathroom. The other three bedrooms are served by two accoustically insulated bathrooms. These floors were completely rebuilt in terracotta.
The entire house has been insulated with 10cm of insulation.
On the lower floors, there are huge cantinas, a bar, a workshop, access to the lower garden, a laundry and a study.
There is high wattage electric provision for all the systems and the water is heated with solar panels.
